I have high blood pressure, diabetes type 2, and asthma. Without this place, I would be dead. I work for a school bus company, and they do not provide health care. One of my students on my bus knows Rick. His mom told me to call Rick. That was back in 2004. I’ve been coming ever since.
When I first started, it was like two times a month. Now I came once a month. Sometimes I am better than others in making it in.
The doctors here are a godsend. They have been very good to me. They are a great help. When I started coming here I was on pills, and now I am on insulin. Those bottles of insulin are very expensive. The medication I am picking up today would cost $600. Honest to God, if it wasn’t for this place I’d be dead. And it’s not just me. It’s all these people. My sister comes here, two other bus drivers I know come here. I can’t say enough about this place.
Everyone who works here is very caring and they practice their faith. That’s another thing I appreciate about them. My husband came here once because he wasn’t feeling well. He was sitting here, and suddenly his color just went white. Dr. Tony was here and saw what was happening, and he got him on an ambulance to Mount Sinai. If we hadn’t come here first, he could’ve been dead. This is a wonderful place.
I lived in West Allis, so it was hard enough to get here. But we were evicted this week, and our new place is in Waukesha. But I’ll find a way to get here. I think the government needs to start thinking about the plain people, the folks who make this country go. We work and we pay our bills, but after paying for food and shelter, how can I afford $600 for insulin? Should I give up food? So if it wasn’t for places like this, I think a lot of people would be sicker than we already are.
